In This Role, You Will

In this role, the Lower Elementary Secretary serves as a vital member of the school community, providing daily administrative and organizational support to ensure a smooth and welcoming environment for students, staff, and families. The secretary collaborates closely with teachers and the Dean of Students to manage and monitor daily attendance, ensuring accurate records and timely follow-up when needed. This role requires strong communication skills, as the secretary is responsible for responding promptly and professionally to parent and family inquiries, helping to maintain clear and positive relationships between home and school.

The Lower Elementary Secretary also plays an active role in the daily operations of the school by assisting with arrival and dismissal duties, helping to ensure student safety and efficient routines. In addition, this position supports the Lower Elementary team by organizing materials, ordering supplies, and helping maintain an orderly and prepared learning environment. The secretary may also create flyers and communication materials for school events, contributing to a strong sense of community and engagement among families. Overall, this role is essential in supporting both the instructional team and the broader school operations with efficiency, care, and attention to detail.

Office and Family Support

  • Answer phones, route calls, and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Assist students visiting the office for attendance, behavior, medical, or other needs.
  • Help respond to family or community concerns with professionalism and warmth.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing electronic school communications, letters, and announcements.
  • Assist in ordering supplies for the office and teachers lounge 
  • Communicate effectively with staff, families and colleagues. 
 

Administrative and Operational Support 

  • Support with student arrival and dismissal duties 
  • Support school administrators with office management and special projects (e.g., events, student orientations).
  • Perform accurate data entry (including attendance) and maintain communication with staff and families.
  • Maintain student records and ensure accurate data entry in school systems.
  • Manage copying, filing, and document organization.

  • Model professionalism and a high standard of customer service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on announcements and school initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
  • Continuously seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services. 
  • School Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned, such as supervising students outside of class (hall duty, lunch duty).
