In This Role, You Will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate theatre instruction that builds a strong foundation in creative expression, public speaking, and speaking and listening skills. Instruction is intentionally planned and aligned to state standards to support early proficiency in theatre arts. Through Spotlight Theatre, K4–2nd grade students are introduced to the fundamentals of theatre through creative play, storytelling, movement, and group collaboration. Young actors develop their voice, body, and imagination as they bring stories to life, explore character roles, and create their own adventures. Engaging, hands-on activities help students strengthen focus, cooperation, and confidence in expressing themselves both on and off the stage.

Key Responsibilities

Academics

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality theatre instruction for students in K4–2nd grade.
  • Use state theatre standards to drive instruction, ensuring lessons are developmentally appropriate and aligned to long-term skill progression.
  • Design lessons that build foundational theatre skills, including voice, movement, expression, storytelling, collaboration, and performance.
  • Support student growth in public speaking, speaking and listening skills, confidence, and communication.
  • Scaffold instruction to meet the developmental needs of students at different stages of learning.
  • Prepare materials, props, and resources needed for instruction and performances.
  • Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment that promotes creativity, respect, and participation.
  • Assess student learning informally and formally, using observations and performance-based tasks to guide instruction.

  • Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for their students, always interacting respectfully and striving to demonstrate God’s love to their students and families.
  • Effectively communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, behavior, and needs.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.

Professionalism

  • Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
  • Continuously seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services. 

Schoolwide Support and Supervision 

  • Direct at least two after-school performances or showcases, one of these will be in collaboration with our Music Teacher and the Christmas Concert. 
  • Monitor and support students during morning arrival, lunch, recess and dismissal.
  • Serve with a flexible, open heart that recognizes no duty is outside the scope of your role--we are a team that is stronger together in service of our students. 

What We’re Looking For 

  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • Passion for working with young children and fostering creativity and confidence. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree or endorsement in Theatre, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred. State teaching license not required.
  • Experience teaching drama or theatre to young children strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of drama instruction across developmental stages, leading to proficiency in foundational theatre and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood and elementary instructional practices.
  • Ability to plan lessons aligned to state standards and school expectations.
  • Strong classroom management skills rooted in positive, age-appropriate discipline.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Active participation in a Christian church. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled in planning and preparation, and organization development; able to balance a focus on big picture priorities while not losing sight of the school goals and objectives. Committed to continuous growth and professional learning.
