Report Structure:  The Director of Arts reports to the Senior Program Director.

Management Structure: The Director of Arts will be responsible for coaching and managing the K4-12 arts teachers and will also supervise the Technical Director. 

Position Description:

St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is seeking a Director of Arts with a heart for Jesus and a passion for children and the arts (musical, visual, and theatrical) to lead and build our K4-12 arts programming and build key partnerships to support and enhance Aug Prep’s arts programming. The Director of Arts will work with arts teachers on developing standards aligned curriculum, cross curricular connections, and provide professional coaching to all arts teachers.  He/she will help find ways to develop and showcase our student’s creativity and artistic abilities while integrating faith into the arts and sharing our faith with the community. He/she will work closely with Aug Prep’s leaders to coordinate and execute arts programming within and outside of the school day, including but not limited to theater and music productions, Christmas/Easter shows, and arts showcase nights. He/she will also work directly with teachers to improve and maximize their instructional, social, and emotional impact on our amazing students. We are seeking a person who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, strong moral character, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. This leader will play a key role in our work to serve and equip the whole child – igniting and growing their minds, bodies and hearts.

Aug Prep’s Director of Arts must be entrepreneurial, looking to launch from the strong foundation established while building the future of the program. The right candidate has experience training or coaching people, strong organization and project management abilities, is skilled at building partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, is an excellent communicator, has a wide knowledge of arts education, and has a passion for inspiring and cultivating our students’ experiences and skills within the arts.  

Job Responsibilities and Roles

  • Model deep connection and belief in Aug Prep’s North Star, mission, and four pillars, integrating faith within the arts at Aug Prep.
  • Provide and demonstrate clear vision, leadership, direction, and energy to the entire Aug Prep arts community and programming, providing quality and depth of experience for the arts both inside and outside the classroom. This includes leading and organizing current programming while visioning and expanding program opportunities for our students and community.
  • Collaborate with Aug Prep Chief Academics Officer and Principals to support and deepen Aug Prep’s K4-12 daily arts education through direct coaching of arts teachers  
  • Lead K-12 professional development for the arts department on standards, curriculum, and cross curricular connections.
  • Oversee the Technical Director and their management of the Performing Arts Center.
  • Work with the Technical Director to lead and organize events and productions, including coordinating external opportunities and partnerships, development of event marketing and materials, coordination of box office activities, oversight of house management, oversight of technical operations/partners, coordination of facility use and reservations and negotiating rental contracts and agreements.
  • Perform a variety of administrative activities to research, plan, develop, promote, and maximize the Aug Prep performing arts center use while managing to an approved budget.
  • Involved in the creation and oversight of a calendar/season of events for the Aug Prep performing arts center, coordinating both internal programs and external rental activities/events. 
  • Prepare and deliver a wide variety of documented materials for the purpose of administrative decision making and establishment of “best practice” protocols (i.e. plans, budgets, funding requests, reports, analyses, recommendations, procedures, maintenance schedules, Aug Prep performing arts center technical and equipment inspections). 
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with internal and external partners, collaborating to maximize Aug Prep performing arts center use.  
  • Create a plan to provide “internship” opportunities for high school student(s) that allows for increased educational real life opportunities.
  • Build strong professional relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.  
  • Collaboratively work with other arts team members to continue to build and refine, if needed, a clear scope and sequence across grade levels.
  • Assist arts teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.  
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.  
  • Assist arts teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.  
  • Develop differentiated coaching plans for arts teachers - meeting them at their level of practice and setting goals for growth to ensure student improvement and development of their professional practice.
  • Attend and lead training and professional development as needed.
  • Facilitate opportunities for teachers to learn from each other like faculty showcases and peer observations.

Qualifications

  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or similar preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years Performing Arts Center and/or Arts Program Management, teaching experience or equivalent relevant experience
  • Participating member of a local Church
  • Skilled in strategic planning, project management, and organization development; able to balance a focus on big picture priorities while not losing sight of the annual goals and objectives.
  • Ability to practice exceptional time management in a fast paced environment
  • Strong organization and project management skills. Ability to meet deadlines and organize, prioritize, self-direct, and work both independently and cooperatively
  • Superior interpersonal, oral presentation, and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn theatrical and technical system operations is ideal
  • Ability to both direct and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to understand and calculate figures and amounts such as event-related costs, variable labor, and operational expense components
  • Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep
