High School Business Entrepreneurship Teacher

 

 POSITION INFORMATION

St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Business Entrepreneurship Teacher. Wisconsin Certification desirable, but not required. Experience with urban youth and the ability to utilize technology, network with post-secondary educational entities and identify resources to increase the student’s opportunities for post-secondary selection, application, funding, matriculation and completion/graduation preferred. Coaching and other co-curricular assignments are available.

JOB DESCRIPTION

St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is a new K4-12 Christian School coming to Milwaukee’s South side at 2607 S. 5th Street in August of 2017. The school will be a student-centered environment where young learners take ownership of their education not only in academics, but also physical health, creativity, and faith. The Business Entrepreneurship Educator will report to the High School Principal.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The High School program at St. Augustine Preparatory Academy combines research-based best instructional practices while also acknowledging the social, emotional, and developmental needs of every student. Students learn best when they are engaged in genuine and authentic learning experiences that align with their evolving interests, inspiring their natural curiosities and empowering them for future success.

Therefore, students at St. Augustine Prep High School will be immersed in both traditional and cross-curricular learning experiences, focused on their own personalized learning needs with a high degree of learner responsibility, empowered by student voice and choice. All educators, including the business entrepreneurship educator, are expected to plan for and participate in both traditional and cross-curricular teaching and learning experiences for students. All learning spaces will be equipped with innovative technology to assist all educators in differentiation, individualization, personalization, skill development, and accelerated programming for students based on their individual needs. The High School core curricular areas align with common core state standards, in addition to learning experiences provided in the fine arts (music, dance, theatre, visual arts), career education STEM and business, as well as physical education and Spanish.

As a result, St. Augustine Prep High School’s graduate will fully embody the schools mission and vision. The business entrepreneurship educator will use his/her network of skills, knowledge, post-secondary educational entities, scholarships and financial aid as well as technology skill to increase each student’s information base, college going experiences and opportunities for post-secondary success.

The post-secondary education instructor and advisor must be skilled at assisting each family and student in the decision making process for their post-secondary education and designed a long-term college/career path.

A ST. AUGUSTINE PREPARATORY HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER IS:

  • A highly-motivated individual who enjoys teaching aspiring entrepreneurs the knowledge and real-world problem-solving skills required for successful, creative business ventures.
  • Flexible with a can-do attitude given our continually evolving environment and school culture.
  • Familiar with topics such as the entrepreneurial mindset, entrepreneurial finance, accounting, budgeting, fundraising, 21st century marketing, marketing, and branding.
  • Responsible for teaching business and entrepreneurial skills, managing student business teams as they form their written business plans and presentations, facilitating mentor teaching sessions with volunteers from the community, promoting financial education including literacy, fostering social and business entrepreneurship, and preparing youth for college and careers.
  • The goal of the entrepreneurship course is to introduce students to the process through which new ventures may be created, while allowing for the opportunity to envision a career in (or related to) business based upon their professional interests.

Instructor Responsibilities

  • To engage and support students in standards-based instruction and learning.
  • To provide assessments for learning (formative assessments) and assessments of learning (summative assessments).
  • To analyze student assessments to develop instructional materials for the class including individualized and small group instruction as necessary in order to make the curriculum accessible for all students.
  • To establish and maintain high expectations for all students.
  • To create and maintain effective learning environments for all students.
  • To use a variety of research-based teaching strategies to advance student learning.
  • To communicate with parents/guardians regarding student’s individual progress.
  • To promote positive interpersonal relationships among peers, staff, students, parents/guardians, and the public.
  • To actively participate as a team member including but not limited to Professional Learning Communities and during IEPs.
  • To differentiate instruction within the universal curriculum.
  • To provide appropriate instructional interventions within the classroom.
  • To support a restorative approach philosophy when working with students.
  • To engage in ongoing, collaborative professional learning.
  • To provide learning experiences where students cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of primary and secondary sources, connecting insights gained from specific details to an understanding of the text as a whole.
  • To provide learning experiences where students determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary that clarifies the relationships between the key details and ideas.
  • To provide learning experiences students evaluate various explanations for actions or events and determine which explanation best accords with textual evidence.
  • To provide learning experiences where students determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including analyzing how an author uses and refines the meaning of a key term over the course of the text.
  • To provide learning experiences where students analyze in detail how a complex primary source is structured, including how key sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text contribute to the whole.
  • To provide learning experiences where students evaluate authors’ differing points of view on the same historical event or issue by assessing the authors’ claims, reasoning, and evidence.
  • To provide learning experiences where students interact with real-world business leaders and familiarize themselves with the Milwaukee business community.

Program Development Duties

  • Design and organize workshops for parents and students
  • Building alliances with businesses, universities, community agencies
  • Create and/or revise program materials
  • Organizing program events and an annual showcase to celebrate youth achievement
  • Recruit and oversee volunteers
  • Manage communications and interface with parents, students and business partners

Experience in the following areas preferred:

  • Accounting
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Management
  • Financial Management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree in Business or Education a plus).
  • Experience with college advising with high need high school age students and their families.
  • Participating member in a local Church.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Skilled in strategic planning, project management, and organization development; able to balance a focus on big picture priorities while not losing sight of the annual goals and objectives.
  • Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model.
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.
