Director of Development



St. Augustine Preparatory Academy is a new K4-12 Christian School coming to Milwaukee’s South side at 2607 S. 5th Street in summer of 2017. The school will be a student-centered environment where young learners take ownership of their education not only in academics, but also physical health, creativity, and faith. Our graduates will go on to achieve their highest potential and make our city, and ultimately the world, a better place.

The Director of Development will report to the Superintendent. 


The Director of Development is responsible for building and executing the development plan, including major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. This position will also implement the information technology system to support the function. The Director of Development will work with other school leaders to forge new relationships and build the School’s visibility, impact and financial resources. In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Development will frame the annual fundraising goals and identify priorities for the year. It is expected that the amount raised by the School will increase in future years as the Director of Development systematically and effectively strengthens the organization’s overall fundraising capacity.

 As this is a new school and new position, this job offers the unique opportunity to build structures and processes from the ground up, and design a development plan from scratch. In its short life the School has already seen great fundraising success—in addition to the $80million gift from the Ramirez family, the School has raised $4.5million from other donors. 


  • Develop and execute the School’s annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Manage the implementation of fund development software and utilize this software to track donor data and gift information
  • Oversee organization of special events
  • Write grant applications and follow through on necessary reporting


  • A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree a plus)
  • Participating member in a local Church
  • Five-plus years experience in development, experience in education development a plus
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational and managerial skills
  • Skilled in strategic planning, project management, and organization development; able to balance a focus on big picture priorities while not losing sight of the annual goals and objectives
  • Ability to work independently without close oversight but also a team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of Augustine Prep
